The twelve books of agriculture were originally written in Latin Junio Moderato Columela, who was born in Gades (present-day Cadiz), in the Roman Baetica region, at the beginning of the Christian era. A contemporary of Seneca, he became his friend. He was a tribune in Syria around the year 35. He then moved to Rome, where he dedicated himself to agriculture on a large scale, for which he put his knowledge into practice. In the capital of the empire he was part of high social circles.
