This canvas follows the models of the homonymous work realized by Pier Francesco Mola. Italian Baroque painter trained with the mannerist Cavalier D'Arpino (Giuseppe Cesari), firstly, and with Francesco Albani, secondly. His masterpiece is the frescoes of the Gallery of Alexander VII in the Palazzo del Quirinal (Joseph is recognized by his brothers, 1657). He was elected prince of the Accademia di San Luca, the guild of Roman painters, in 1662, but in his later years he was scarcely prolific. One of his disciples was Antonio Gherardi.
